An Introduction to Moths

Did you know there are more types of moths in the UK than there are butterflies? Join us on this course designed for newcomers to the world of British moths. Our tutor, moth enthusiast and retired SWT Education Tutor Alan Holloway, will discuss with you the various safe techniques to use when collecting and identifying moths. He will have trapped moths the previous night for you to view, and ID. It has been suggested that if you have a camera with a macro setting, bring it along so that you can record the creatures that have been caught before they are released back into their natural habitat..

The afternoon will be spent discovering the life-cycles and ecology of these fascinating insects. You will also spend time discussing the conservation of moths in gardens and green spaces.
