Basic Genetics with a Plant Focus

This relaxed introductory course offers beginners the opportunity to develop an understanding of basic genetic principles, set mainly within the context of plants. Learn about DNA, genes and chromosomes, see how they fit into the cells of living things and discover how genetic traits are passed from parents to offspring.

Dr Karen van Oostrum has a love of plants and the environment, which is underpinned by a solid understanding of plant adaptability, physiology and genetics. Karen graduated from Oxford university with a Ph.D. in wheat genetics and was Head of Education at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens for six years. Now self employed she runs taster sessions for adults in Botany, Microscopy and Genetics.
