Craft Workshop: Making a Willow Reindeer

Create a traditional willow deer or reindeer with antlers found in the woodland – just in time to include in your holiday displays or simply add interest to your garden.  When complete, your animal will stand over 4 foot tall and measure approximately 3 feet nose to tail.

This week-end course is taking place at the Nower Wood Educational Nature Reserve, so you will not only be surrounded by the naked beauty of this woodland entering winter, but you may also see some of our native deer for additional inspiration.

This workshop is designed for all levels of ability therefore the details that you achieve may depend on your previous experience of working with willow or similar materials.

Working with willow and using small tools can be tiring on the hands and will require a good level of hand dexterity.  This may be difficult for those with arthritis or a similar condition.  If this is the case, please let us know and we can bring along some buff willow which is kinder on the hands but not as hard wearing as traditional brown willow.

All materials and tools will be provided.  However, feel free to bring your own secateurs and gloves if you prefer.  It is recommended that you wear an apron as the willow will be damp and a bit dirty.
