Introduction to Botany

This course in basic botany is for complete beginners and looks at leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruits and seeds. Participants will learn about the structure and function of these plant parts, and discover how some have become modified through evolution to play a differen role in the plant’s life.

Dr Karen van Oostrum has a love of plants and the environment, which is underpinned by a solid understanding of plant adaptability, physiology and genetics. Karen graduated from Oxford university with a Ph.D. in wheat genetics and was Head of Education at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens for six years. Now self employed she runs taster sessions for adults in Botany, Microscopy and Genetics.
