This course will provide an overview of otter legislation, ecology, survey, as well as discussion of impacts, mitigation and compensation options. Reference will be made to the new CIEEM ECIA guidance in relation to reporting. Impacts discussed will include holt disturbance, exclusion, destruction and artificial holt construction. A range of case studies, including hydro-schemes will be presented to help participants gain a greater understanding of otter mitigation and survey and the course will cover topics such as “what to include in a otter toolbox talk”.

The training will be delivered through classroom and field based activities (weather permitting). The field visit will look for signs for otter at a local site.
