Workshop: Willow Basket Making

You will learn how to weave a two-hooped frame basket that is ideal to use when picking berries, gathering nuts or collecting eggs. Of course you can always simply display your creation on the kitchen table filled with fruit.

We will form a frame and handle, bowl rim and ribs and then learn how to lash these all together with a ‘God’s Eye’ or ‘St Brigit’s Cross’. We will then use ‘randing’ to fill in the basket with willow. Even if you don’t finish your basket on the day, you will have all of the skills and materials to complete it at home.

Please bring an apron and secateurs if you own them. Suitable for beginners with some manual dexterity and patience.

Your tutor – Louise Arthur – is an expert in the field of basket making. View her facebook page for more information.
