Introduction to Identifying Ladybirds

These Virtual Meet Ups are an opportunity to keep in touch and keep learning during lockdown. They are short natural history webinars, comprising of a 30-40 minute talk from either an FSC BioLinks team member or a guest speaker, followed by a question and answer session. We host them on Zoom, we will send out joining instructions on the day of the event.

We will have Helen Roy and Peter Brown joining us in this VMU. Helen is an ecologist at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and Peter is a senior lecturer in ecology at Anglia Ruskin University. Both co-lead the UK Ladybird Survey. Ladybirds belong to the scientific family Coccinellidae. In Britain there are nearly 50 species within this family, although only 26 of these are recognisable as ladybirds (conspicuous ladybirds). They will introduce you to some of these recognisable common species found in gardens.
Please note, this will be slightly longer than our usual VMUs as the presentation will be 45 minutes long.
