Community Wildlife Ranger (Maternity Cover 9 months) 18.75 hours a week
Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust are delivering the Living Landscapes Project and wish to recruit a Community Wildlife Ranger to cover maternity leave.
Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust works to build a better future for people and wildlife. We have nearly 6,000 members, manage 13 local nature reserves and help to inspire and engage people of all ages in their local wildlife. We are one of 47 Wildlife Trusts nationwide.
The role includes assisting with the management of nature reserves in the Living Don and South Sheffield Greenway Living Landscapes areas, including community engagement, volunteer co-ordination, patrolling and practical work. Ensuring good relationships with local stakeholders, site users and volunteers, in particular through organising and managing Reserve Advisory Group and User Forum meetings.
Working with colleagues in the Wild at Heart, Nature Counts and Outdoor Learning teams to support local groups, schools and individuals to engage with, and increase understanding and enjoyment of local wildlife and natural heritage.
The role also involves providing support to the River Rother Restoration Project through community engagement and consultation.
We are looking for someone:
To provide and promote opportunities for all sections of the community to experience and enjoy their local natural heritage on Living Landscapes sites.
To support the consultation and engagement of existing community groups and the development and support of new community groups with the aim of increasing community involvement on sites.
To support the volunteer and community learning programme linked to the management of nature reserves, and supervising volunteers and trainees as required.
To support the development, promotion and implementation of a wide range of activities including volunteer conservation tasks, guided walks, school activities, annual events and specialist visits.
Ability to motivate and work supportively with a wide range of people
A commitment to nature conservation
Will have at least 1 or 2 years of appropriate relevant experience, and or a vocational (or academic) qualification equivalent to NVQ 3 or above.
Due to the nature of the post a full driving licence will be required.
