Dark Skies Project Officer ~ (part-time) 17.5 hours per week (with potential for flexible working or annualised hours)
Temporary Contract ~ 18 months (March 2020 – August 2021)
Starting salary: £13,866 per annum part time, (£27,732 F.T.E.)
Friends of the Lake District is an independent charity and the only membership organisation dedicated to protecting and enhancing Cumbria’s landscapes. We believe that the Lake District offers some of the most spectacular and precious landscapes in England. We take action to protect and conserve the natural beauty of these landscapes for the benefit of visitors, local communities, wildlife and habitats.
We are looking for a new Dark Skies Project Officer, who will play a key role in our Policy team, could this be you?
This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead on development and delivery of the Dark Skies project (a 3 year project) which has been running since August 2018. You will take over and build on the project plans and strategy which have been developed during the last 18 months, for the remaining duration of the project.
To be considered for this role you should have a proven track record of project development and management and it is desirable that you have either a degree or formal qualification in countryside or environmental management/science or project management and/or substantive appropriate experience. Recent experience of landscape or Dark Skies-related project management is also desirable.
Candidates should have experience working with community groups and volunteers, in project design and management, in partnerships, and with consultants and contractors and knowledge and understanding of rural issues and conservation policy is essential to this role. You will have the ability to work on your own initiative, have well developed verbal and written communications skills, and be able to persuade and influence others. A willingness and ability to work flexible hours is required, including occasional evenings and weekends.
The post is temporary and based at our Kendal office at Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road and will require travel to other parts of Cumbria.
