Full time, permanent. Grade 2/3: Salary between £17,000 and £22,000 pa (dependent on experience) plus benefits including 6% pension.
The Westcountry Rivers Trust is an environmental charity that works across the South West to improve our rivers for the benefit of all. We work with EU grants, Water Company funded initiatives and government funding to deliver change both in our rivers and on the land that they drain.
Do you have a good environmental understanding and a commitment to developing a career in the environmental or conservation sectors? The Westcountry Rivers Trust is looking for a confident and technically capable individual to fulfil the role of Data & Evidence Officer. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, organised and enthusiastic individual able to work to deadlines and under pressure.
This specialist role, sitting in the Trust’s Evidence & Engagement Team, will be a full-time permanent position based at our Head Office in Cornwall. The post will report to Dr Nick Paling, Head of Evidence & Engagement.
The Data & Evidence Officer will be required to collate, analyse and present environmental data and evidence to support the ecosystem services/natural capital planning and integrated catchment management activities of the Trust. The successful candidate will be required to integrate data and evidence from a variety of sources to support initiatives being undertaken by Trust staff and for presentation to external clients and partners. The work undertaken will also make a significant contribution to the consultancy work of the Trust and help it to achieve its objectives of protecting and improving the environment and promoting sustainable development.
Due to the specific technical nature of our work it will be essential for the Data & Evidence Officer to have a good knowledge or background in the environmental or conservation sectors. An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline is an essential requirement, with a postgraduate qualification preferable. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about the environment and who have a keen interest in both the collation and analysis of scientific data and the communication of scientific information to a variety of audiences.
The Data & Evidence Officer will be comfortable managing, analysing and presenting environmental data using a variety of software. They will also be an experienced user of geographic information systems (GIS) and will preferably have some experience of using the ESRI ArcGIS software package. They will also have a good understanding of, and perhaps some experience of undertaking, spatial data creation and management, spatial analysis, 3D analysis and the professional mapping of spatial data and geographic information. They will also be equally at ease writing for both technical and non-technical audiences and will be capable of adjusting their style to suit the audience’s prior knowledge.
