Engagement Officer (North) for the North West Coast’s Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme

This exciting role offers the opportunity to use your engagement and communication skills to work at the cutting edge of natural flood risk management on the North West Coast.

As we face up to the climate emergency, the Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (FCRIP) offers a unique opportunity to work in partnership with communities and stakeholders and, together, develop and test new approaches to combat coastal flooding in our region.

You will be central to the success of this innovative 5-year programme testing and developing nature-based solutions for coastal flood risk management rooted in community collaboration and co-design. This programme, called Ecological Community Owned Coastal Buffer Strips (ECO-CoBS), is one of the 25 pioneering projects awarded by DEFRA under the Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme (FCRIP).

There are two part-time (0.5FTE) roles available, one hosted by Morecambe Bay Partnership and the other by Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about promoting collaboration and enabling stakeholders and communities to take part in conversations about how to manage the impacts of our changing climate.  You will have a very good understanding of current coastal environmental issues, the climate change agenda, and the issues of coastal flooding.

We need superb communicators, with the personal skills to build trust, and with a practical understanding of community and landowner engagement. You must be confident, articulate and able to explain complex or technical information simply, clearly and with enthusiasm. You’ll also be able to talk sensitively with community representatives of all backgrounds from farmers and land managers to parish councils and wider community groups from the locality. We encourage applicants with transferrable skills and experience.

The roles will involve extensive travel around the north west coast. You will need access to a vehicle and have a professional, positive and constructive approach to your job, embracing technology and new ways of working.

Morecambe Bay Partnership is the only Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) operating on a bay-wide scale aiming to promote the conservation, improvement and special qualities of the physical and natural environment and cultural heritage of Morecambe Bay.
