They will join a small dynamic team, and will help play a part in how the RSPB connects with people across England to inspire them to take action for nature.
Our RSPB local groups are run by dedicated and experienced RSPB volunteers who undertake community engagement, fundraising and educational activities in their local areas. They help advocate for and inspire people about the work of the RSPB in communities across England. As the local groups main point of contact with the RSPB, you will ensure they have everything they need to succeed and to carry out their work safely and you will ensure that group policy and procedures are followed.
You will be an excellent communicator who has experience working with people from a diverse background and in a leadership role, particularly working with volunteers.
We’re not looking for a wildlife expert, we want someone who is interested in working with people; someone who can help encourage and develop volunteers in a way that inspires them to donate their time and talents so they can take action for nature, to take small steps to help their local environment and advocate for the work of the RSPB.
The large group network consists of 120 groups and you will join a team of two other Local Group Officers, to manage those groups and develop ways to help support them have a greater impact. As a line manager to a large number of dispersed volunteers, you will have to be organised and consistent in your approach to deliver a quality volunteering experience.
We are committed to better reflecting society within our workforce, and are keen to encourage more applications from people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities and younger people. All applications will be judged solely on merit.
This role is being advertised for our Birmingham or Norwich office as we already have a local group officer based in the north and in the south of England. However, if you feel passionate about the role and feel that your skills would be suitable, do get in touch about the possibility of working from a different location. We have offices across England.
This role does require travel in the evenings to visit groups from time to time.
