Manager/Education Officer

Trentham Monkey Forest is a unique attraction set in the heart of Staffordshire – It’s the only place in the UK you can walk amongst 140 free ranging Barbary macaques living within a 60-acre forest. Wandering along the woodland paths, our visitors discover this fascinating species through info points and our knowledgeable park guides.

Trentham Monkey Forest are looking for a ‘Manager/Education Officer’ who will be joining a small team where versatility, flexibility and being a team member is essential. The role will require the organisational skills in order to manage the daily running of the park and also to improve the standard of information provided for customers.

The successful applicant will demonstrate commitment to the role and provide the highest level of customer information. Customer service skills are essential to set an example to all staff members.

Job Details:

  • Full time, permanent position
  • Reports to Park Director
  • Working most weekends and all bank holidays.
  • Competitive salary – dependent upon experience.


  • Maintain the smooth day to day running of the park & be responsible for ALL aspects of running the park in the Director’s absence.
  • Manage staff on a daily basis, making sure all jobs are undertaken before opening to the public, maintain high standards at all times.
  • The ability to lead by example, inspire and motivate your team.
  • Help to manage the performance and development of the team to ensure excellent customer service, constantly motivating and giving feedback to supervisors and all frontline staff.
  • Monitor quality standards and procedures by ‘walking the park’ at regular intervals throughout each day.
  • The ability to lead by example, inspire and motivate your team.
  • Write, deliver and maintain the high standard of guide information and presentations.
  • Conduct training and assessment of the park guides knowledge.
  • Assist the Director to ensure the well-being of the monkeys.
  • Liaise with Schools and deliver education sessions when required.
  • Assist in recruiting team members.
  • Responsibility to ensure compliance of Health, Safety & Security within the workplace.
  • Undertake any other duty appropriate to the post including, but not limited to, rota planning and safe checks.


  • A degree or higher in a biological or environmental science and good experience of informal education.
  • Experience in management.
  • Sound business acumen is also required for the daily management of the park.
  • Staff training, cash handling and customer service experience would be an advantage.
