Marine Conservation Communications Volunteer

Marine Conservation Communications Volunteer- York

Our North Sea is amazing and we want to tell everyone! From deep sea mud brimming with burrowing animals to submerged seagrass beds protecting young fish and shellfish, our seas are home to an incredible range of species and habitats. But our seas are not as diverse and healthy as they once were; decades of misuse have left them damaged and degraded. One way we can prevent further decline in the health of our seas and enable recovery is to better protect areas of the sea in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), essentially nature reserves at sea. We already have some, like Flamborough Head MPA in Yorkshire which protects a large chalk reef home to crabs and lobsters, vibrant anemones and colourful seaweeds, but we need more if our seas and marine wildlife are to thrive again.

The North Sea Marine Protected Areas programme is working towards creating a network of nature reserves in the English North Sea and we need a passionate volunteer to help us shout about this work. We are keen to increase our interaction and dialogue with our existing members and potential new ones through our website social media channels and are seeking a creative and enthusiastic volunteer to help us do so.

You will assist in increasing brand and project recognition and interaction with our work through increasing website visits and social media followers by helping to produce engaging online content. If you have a flair for the creative and like to use social media to reach people we would love to hear from you.

Commitment: 1 day a week, preferably on a Thursday or Friday but this can be negotiable to fit around other commitments you may have.

Duration: Six months from July 2017

Application and Interview date: to apply for this role please contact us below for a application form, closing date Monday 3rd July 9am. Interviews for the role will be taking place on Tuesday 11th July at our York office.
