Woodland Creation Project Officer
Tweed Forum is a key partner in the Scottish Wildlife Trust Riverwoods: A Blueprint for River Woodland Recovery Project (https://www.riverwoods.org.uk/streams/blueprint/), funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF). This role is funded by Tweed Forum, the Blueprint Project and the River Tweed Commission.
The key purpose of the Riverwoods initiative is to create a network of riparian woodland and healthy river systems throughout Scotland, which will deliver a range of benefits including flood protection, improved water quality and improvements for salmon fisheries, as well as helping to tackle the twin challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.
Job description and responsibilities
The role will focus on the development and delivery of targeted native river woodland creation projects that deliver multiple environmental benefits and that also delivers against Blueprint Project outputs. A key component will be to work with landowners, farmers and communities to bring about the right woodland in the right place at the right scale. It will focus on key sub catchments where there is a need to reduce flooding, improve water quality, protect the fishery and enhance biodiversity.
There is also the opportunity to get involved in other areas of Forum work that might include river restoration and wetland creation; access and recreational improvements; education and interpretation.
This role is being considered across two salary grades. Applicant’s entrance level will be determined by their qualifications and experience relevant to the role. We welcome applications for the Graduate Woodland Creation Project Officer role from recent graduates and those with less than 3 years relevant experience, and applications to the Woodland Creation Project Officer role by those with 3+ years of relevant experience.
