Do you need a new challenge in 2018?
Why we want you
Fineshade Wood is huge, and everything keeps growing! This is good, but sometimes nature can over-run an area, so that the big plants thrive at the expense of the small ones. Or the butterflies’ favourite sunny glade becomes shaded out. Or the path becomes just too muddy for use.
You can help us by enabling us to keep on top of the undergrowth, and keep the trails clean and tidy and up to scratch. You might even try your hand at a bit of fencing, tidying up after timber harvesting or other forest operations, or coppicing. Or any of the numerous tasks involved in woodland management.
What’s in it for you?
Being outdoors, getting fresh air and exercise, and improving wildlife habitats. Seeing the result of what happens when more light hits the forest floor and seeing the public delight in overgrown trails being opened up. You will get a sense of satisfaction, of giving something back to the woodland, whilst being with like-minded people, working as a team to improve the environment. Learning more about wildlife as you do the job, and it is fun, too!
How much time would you need to give?
A day or half a day once a month, throughout the year
What skills would you need?
All you really need is enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in. You do not need to be physically fit, and we provide all the tools you need, the training and also sometimes specialist protective clothing, if this is required.
