Conservation Volunteer – The Faughan Valley – Derry, Londonderry, Northern Ireland

Would you like to use your passion for the environment to help conserve the natural beauty of the Faughan Valley by assisting the Faughan Valley project team with the practical management of the landscape with varied tasks – from woodlands in Killaloo to farmland in Kilcreen?

As a Conservation Volunteer you could get involved with all or some of the following tasks :

  • Woodland maintenance
  • Tree planting
  • Invasive species control
  • Gorse control
  • Surveys (wildlife, wildflower, tree and visitor)
  • Hedge laying and maintenance
  • Scrub clearance
  • Pond creation and maintenance
  • Wildflower seed collection
  • Litter picking
  • Wildflower meadow creation and maintenance
  • Path maintenance

The Faughan Valley runs from the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains along the beautiful River Faughan to the outskirts of Derry, Londonderry, covering some 80 square miles.  Pockets of precious ancient woodland – a habitat even rarer in Northern Ireland than elsewhere in the UK – have been the inspiration for us to build a project around their protection.
