Help us recruit RSPB members at Rainham Marshes nature reserve
What we’re looking for
RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work here and across the UK – not only the ongoing land management of our reserves, but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy.
We’re looking for volunteers who would enjoy enthusing visitors to join the RSPB as members to ensure that visitors have a great time when they visit Rainham Marshes.
Your role would include:
- Providing a warm welcome to all our reserve visitors
- Promoting the work of the RSPB and Rainham Marshes nature reserve
- Inspiring & actively encouraging people to support their local reserve and the RSPB by joining as members
- Following procedures to set up new memberships including talking people through our membership pack.
- Handling bank and other payment details, including taking payment for membership, nature trail entries, which would require using a till.
- Helping existing members with their membership enquiries
- Assisting visitors to the reserve with their general enquiries
- There’s also scope to get involved in running recruitment and information stands at various reserve events or off-site shows in the local area.
full training and ongoing support will be given regarding RSPB membership policy including procedures, customer approach, form filling and use of the till and money handling. We’d also need you to complete our short online GDPR training annually and Safeguarding Training.
The skills you need:
If you’re a ‘people person’, friendly, approachable and have good understanding of the importance of giving visitors a first class experience then this could be the role for you! You’ll need to have the confidence to strike up conversations with strangers and the ability to enthuse people about the RSPB’s work. You will need to know, or be willing to learn, about the benefits of RSPB membership. We’d train you in everything you need to know beforehand and you DON’T need to be a bird expert. Just have a passion for nature and wildlife.
1-2 days per month at weekends and school holidays (for a few hours per day) though very flexible you can come every day, once a week or once a month it’s up to you!
All year round.
What’s in it for you?
A wonderful opportunity to really make a difference to our work in an amazing setting! Meet lots of new people: reserve visitors, staff and fellow volunteers. Learn more about the reserve and the wildlife that uses it. This role gives you the chance to pass on and share your own passion for wildlife and stories to others, and inspire them, and hear the same back from them. It’s a great opportunity for you to develop and learn new skills, as well as build on existing ones. The RSPB is the country’s largest nature conservation body, inspiring everyone to give nature a home. Volunteering can help you gain skills and give you a valuable insight into our work.
