LOHP Conservation Volunteer

Join our existing team of dedicated and amazing volunteers and help restore rare fen habitat, carr woodland or dry grasslands. Anyone is welcome to join the Little Ouse Headwaters Project

Through volunteering for the Little Ouse Headwaters Project (LOHP) you can gain knowledge and experience in a wide range of wildlife conservation activities throughout the seasons in some of Norfolk and Suffolk’s most picturesque landscape. We pride ourselves on ensuring that all of our volunteers are valued, appreciated and treated with the upmost respect. We also provide freshly made cakes at work parties…

LOHP offer a range of volunteering opportunities including: practical restoration management, implementing monitoring, such as dipwell and water quality monitoring. There are plenty of wildlife surveys to get involved with including moths, butterflies and dragonflies, aquatic invertebrates, bats, water voles, aquatic and terrestrial plants, otters, small mammals, grasshoppers and many, many more.

Opportunities are plentiful to learn about monitoring equipment, including fixed-point photography, trail cameras, bat detectors, moth traps and associated data input and collation.

You can assist, support or lead education and community engagement activities, such as guided walks, school visits and special events.

We also need people interested in livestock, who would be happy to check the welfare of our cattle & sheep.

As a volunteer you will be trained in a variety of skills, with opportunities to attend training courses for free, including species identification and habitat management.

There are weekly work parties every Wednesday; Sunday work parties once a month; and our Conservation Manager can support and assist volunteers Mondays – Thursdays.

Start date: Join a work party or a survey team to try volunteering at the LOHP. We welcome new volunteers all year.
