Marine Awareness Assistant x2

This is a 6 month volunteer placement, based at Wembury Marine Centre in South Devon. There are two posts available and each post is a 4 day/week commitment. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered, but please note that no accommodation is available.

Marine Awareness Assistants will be involved in raising awareness of the marine environment through education and interpretation. Full training will be given and tasks will involve organising and leading public events – including rockpool safaris, beach cleans and guided walks – plus organising and leading environmental education activities with school groups on the rocky shore and in the classroom. Other tasks will include manning the visitor centre, maintaining cold water aquarium, community engagement, developing new interpretation materials and promoting the Wembury Marine Conservation Area.  There will also be opportunity to gain skills and experience in managing volunteers.

Formal training in First Aid, Techniques in Environmental Education and Child Welfare & Safeguarding will be given as well as in house training from the current staff.

We ask that applicants feel confident that they will be able to commit to this role for the 6 months and be available for interview.
