Nature Reserve Voluntary Trainee – Lower Aire Valley

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT) and Leeds City Council (LCC) are working in partnership to create wildlife enriched areas along the Lower Aire Valley in Leeds. The network of 10 nature reserves in south east Leeds provide a patchwork of habitats from wildflower meadows, wetlands and woodlands, and these green spaces link up to create a fantastic wildlife corridor in a largely urban area.

As a voluntary trainee you’ll support the Lower Aire Valley reserves officer who is responsible for the management of these sites and carries out a varied and important program of both field and office work in order to create, maintain and protect these high quality habitats for wildlife and for visitors. Your role as a voluntary trainee will be assisting the reserves officer in carrying out practical conservation tasks, leading volunteer groups and carrying out office-based reserve management. There will also be opportunities to help lead guided walks and other events.

Our volunteer trainee program is now well established and as such, participants have become an invaluable addition to the reserves team, further enhancing and protecting Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s nature reserves whilst developing the skills and experience needed to take the first steps into a career in conservation.

This Voluntary traineeship comes with a competitive training budget and travel expenses can also be provided.
