Nature Reserve Voluntary Trainee- South Yorkshire
Across South Yorkshire, our reserves team carries out vital practical conservation tasks, leading volunteer groups and carrying out office-based reserve management to enhance and protect nature. We are offering the opportunity for two new voluntary trainees to gain valuable experience within this team and develop skills in all aspects of habitat management.
Our reserves in South Yorkshire are incredible sites where you can see wildlife spectacles throughout the year. From the vast wetland bird haven and our flagship reserve Potteric Carr, to the flower-rich grasslands of Carr Lodge, with this opportunity you can expect to gain valuable experience in nature reserve management across a broad range of fascinating habitats and locations.
The role will be split between office-based tasks and practical habitat conservation work on various public nature reserves throughout South Yorkshire, with most time spent at our reserves nature reserves. You will develop skills and gain experience carrying out habitat management activities such as scrub clearance, reed bed management, invasive species management, livestock management, fence and gate repairs and surveying and monitoring, plus a variety of other tasks. Tasks often involve working with local volunteers to manage sites and part of the role will include leading volunteer groups in practical activities.
Office-based work will be based at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve and will include researching, writing and developing management plans, preparing and supervising contract works, GIS and mapping, writing funding bids, fielding queries, as well as other reserves administration.
The role is for 12 months, for 3 days a week, comes with a competitive training budget and travel expenses.
