Nature Reserve Voluntary Trainee, West Yorkshire
Across West Yorkshire, our reserves team carries out vital practical conservation tasks, leading volunteer groups and carrying out office-based reserve management to enhance and protect nature. We are offering the opportunity for a new voluntary trainees to gain valuable experience within this team and develop skills in all aspects of habitat management.
You’ll be involved with helping to look after a suite of green spaces across West Yorkshire with varied habitats including wildflower meadows, wetlands and woodlands. As the range of sites that we manage varies so much in this area, you can expect to gain valuable experience in nature reserve management across a broad range of fascinating habitats and locations with this opportunity.
The role will be split between office-based tasks and practical habitat conservation work on various public nature reserves throughout West Yorkshire, but with most time spent out and about at our nature reserves. You will develop skills and gain experience carrying out habitat management activities for example; invasive species removal, meadow management, surveying and monitoring, and a variety of other jobs. Tasks often involve working with local volunteers to manage sites and part of the role will include leading volunteer groups in practical activities.
Office-based work will include researching, writing and developing management plans, preparing and supervising contract works, writing funding bids, fielding queries, as well as other reserves administration.
The role is for 12 months, for 3 days a week, come with a competitive training budget and travel expenses.
