Nature Reserves Voluntary Trainee- North Central Reserves
Across North Yorkshire, our reserves team carries out vital practical conservation tasks, leading volunteer groups to enhance and protect nature. We are offering the opportunity for a new voluntary trainee to gain valuable experience within this team and develop skills in all aspects of habitat management.
Our reserves in North Yorkshire are incredible sites where you can see wildlife spectacles throughout the year. From the vast wetland bird haven at Staveley, to the flower-rich limestone grasslands of Burton Leonard Lime Quarries, and incredible starling murmurations at Ripon City Wetlands. With this opportunity you can expect to gain valuable experience in nature reserve management across a broad range of fascinating habitats and locations.
The role will focus mainly on practical habitat conservation work on various public nature reserves throughout North Yorkshire, with most time spent at our own nature reserves. You will develop skills and gain experience carrying out habitat management activities such as scrub clearance, ragwort pulling, livestock management, fence and gate repairs and surveying and monitoring, plus a variety of other tasks. Tasks often involve working with local volunteers to manage sites and part of the role will include leading volunteer groups in practical activities.
There will be an occasional element of office-based tasks that centre around admin related to the nature reserves you will be assisting at.
The role is for 12 months, for 3 days a week, comes with a competitive training budget and travel expenses.
