Volunteer Workshop Leader
Calling conservationists!! Action for Conservation is looking to grow our team of volunteer workshop leaders!
Action for Conservation (AFC) is looking for passionate young conservation professionals to volunteer to help us inspire and empower young people (aged 12-18) from diverse backgrounds across the UK to become the next generation of conservationists. To us, being a “conservationist” doesn’t just mean following a career as a field biologist or campaigner. We believe that a passion for conservation can flow through anyone’s life, whatever their day-job. If you are ready to inspire the next generation with your passion and want to gain some new experience, then we need you!
With over 50% of UK species in decline, over 50% of people unaware of biodiversity loss and 79% of children lacking adequate connections to nature, we face a societal and environmental time bomb. Young people without strong connections to nature are less likely to fight to protect it as adults and suffer negative impacts on their learning, behaviour and wellbeing. Help us turn these statistics on their head through our ‘WildED’ conservation workshops in secondary schools in deprived areas across the UK!
Through a series of tailored workshops, students participating in WildED gain the knowledge, skills and support they need to lead their own environmental action projects over the course of a school term. WildED is run by an inspirational team of young conservation professionals, and that’s where you come in! We are looking to grow our team of volunteer workshop leaders from a broad range of backgrounds, particularly those studying at a Masters level or higher and those with practical work experience within the conservation sector. Your unique experience and expertise will show students that there are many ways to be a conservationist and many ways to take action!
As a WildED workshop leader, you will have the opportunity to share your story and inspire the environmental leaders of tomorrow while gaining valuable skills as an educator, presenter and mentor. We’re a really close team, which means you’ll get full training and support from the Programme Manager and Director and access to a growing network of other young conservation professionals like yourself.
How to Apply
How to get involved
If you’re ready to join us in taking action for the environment, please send an email to our Programme Manager, Laura Kravac, on firstname.lastname@example.org, briefly describing why conservation is important to you and why you are passionate about inspiring others with your story. We look forward to hearing from you!
You can read more about our grassroots work here: http://www.actionforconservation.org/
Please note that we will be running WildED in Bristol in January 2018 and Manchester/Liverpool in April 2018, so volunteers will either need to live near or be able to travel to these areas. If you are interested in volunteering but you live outside of these areas please send us a message anyway, as WildED will be moving throughout the country in upcoming months and we’re always looking to create connections to young conservationists in new places! We also occasionally run individual workshops outside of our WildED areas – these could be a great way to get involved while you wait for WildED to come closer to you.
