Residential People Engagement Volunteer
Looking for further experience in communication, events planning, environmental education or all of these? Then read on, because we have a fantastic opportunity for someone to become our People Engagement Volunteer until September 2018.
At RSPB’s Forsinard Flows we work hard to restore the peatlands by removing timber plantations and blocking drainage systems. With these conservation efforts we help to tackle global warming, because the peat stored in blanket bogs is one of the most important carbon stocks globally.
Through our people engagement work we connect with local communities and people further away, promoting the Flow Country peatlands and raising awareness about the restoration and conservation work that is going on. This is a diverse and exciting part of the project, reaching out to people and schools locally, as well as to online audiences and to exhibition visitors throughout the country.
We are in an exciting phase of this Heritage Lottery funded project with many milestones already secured. There are also fantastic things going on and ahead of us, involving artists, roadside interpretation and the exhibition which is currently on tour through the country. We have gathered a wide interest among primary schools in the region and next year will see further development and delivery of lessons. This school work is a mixture of outreach and outdoor learning.
Residential volunteers live on site at the Flows Field Centre, built in 2016, which houses our office, guest accommodation, research and education facilities and the volunteer accommodation. Volunteers have their own bedroom, and share bathroom facilities, kitchen and living area. Most of the year, around 4 or 5 volunteers live on site. This accommodation is provided free of charge.
