Why do we need you?
At WWT we believe that the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them so we bring awe-inspiring nature up close. You will be directly involved in shaping our visitor’s’ unforgettable experiences through your warm welcome, your interaction with them and the information that you provide.
We are a conservation organisation and you will be involved in sharing our message with the wider public, making people feel part of something amazing.
Who will be responsible for your role? Learning Manager
How much time will it take?
One or two days a week during school holidays and / or weekends.
What will you be doing?
Moving or positioning yourself around the site (outdoors) in order to talk to visitors about what is of interest there at that time.
Greeting visitors, understand their needs, empathising with them, showing them what you have to show them, and then telling them ‘what else is on’.
Engaging with visitors by using a range of appropriate techniques, for example:
Talking about the flamingos with a telescope set up and focused on the nest site, as an interactive prop.
Involving children and their families by using a series of simple wetland busks to ‘draw a crowd’.
Talking about the birds and habitats visible from Discovery Hide
Taking advantage of your engagement with our visitors to talk about WWT’s key messages and to mention our international work, new centre developments, forthcoming events and membership.
Who we are looking for?
No previous experience is required as training will be provided. However this role will suit you if you have a love of wildlife and the outdoors.
Experience either in an educational setting or in an environment involving children would be an advantage.
A friendly and approachable manner, confident in talking to members of the public of all ages.
Ability to work in a team.
