Speaker for schools – Durham
Can you talk about trees with passion and enthusiasm to inspire the next generation?
The Woodland Trust is the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity. Founded in 1972, we were the first to stand up against the spiraling threats to our precious woods and trees, and we remain at the forefront of the fight to protect, plant and restore UK woodland.
This exciting new volunteer role will be supporting our Green Tree School Awards funded by the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. The Green Tree School Awards is a program aimed at involving children and schools with woods and trees. Schools gain points for completing environmental based activities. They progress through Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels.
The People’s Postcode Lottery Green Tree School Awards is a project for schools near Heartwood Forest, Skipton Woods and Durham. As part of the People’s Postcode Lottery Green Tree School Awards the closest schools will be offered an assembly based on the story “The Man Who Planted trees”. We are looking for volunteers to carry out these assemblies to schools.
By volunteering as a schools speaker you will play a vital role in our work. You will help us by raising awareness of both the importance and value of ancient and native woodland, encouraging children to find out about and visit their local woodland.
We are looking for volunteers, who are wishing to gain experience in environmental education or ex-teachers willing to pass on their knowledge, to help us promote our cause to schools. Assemblies typically last for 20 minutes plus time after for questions. The presentations are delivered using a PowerPoint presentation (which we provide, along with a projector if required), and accompanying notes. You will present to both primary and secondary schools. Any specialism to one age group will be taken into account. Training will be provided to support volunteers with their presentation skills.
This is a funded project taking place in Skipton North Yorkshire, St Albans, Hertfordshire and across County Durham so please ensure you live very close to or with in one of those areas before applying.
