Spurn National Nature Reserve Trainee
Are you looking for a career in conservation? Do you need to gain experience and make your CV stand out to potential employers? Then read on to find out about the Reserves Voluntary Traineeship at Spurn National Nature Reserve, which is currently open for applications.
As a Spurn National Nature Reserve Trainee you will carry out and be involved with a broad range of tasks. This role encompasses every area of our work so you will be involved with the habitat management and conservation work, learn about grazing and how to work with the grazing animals, carry out habitat and species survey work, engage with visitors and assist at events, carry out monitoring of some of the historic features on site and complete infrastructure maintenance work.
You will have the opportunity to live on site and completely immerse yourself in the experience of working on a nature reserve. On a quiet summer evening you can be scanning flocks of waders for that rare find, the east coast is well known for attracting migrating rarities. Or if that doesn’t suit you, stroll along the beach looking for what treasures the tide has brought in. While on still clear winter evenings you can enjoy the stars, as the haunting call of seals reach you across the water.
Previous Spurn Reserve Voluntary Trainees have gained employment within the sector and gone to work as ecology assistant’s consultants or with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Spurn is an incredible and isolated place, which you become completely immersed in while gaining vital experience, to help you stand out when applying for jobs in the conservation sector.
The role is based at Spurn, runs for 6 or 12 months, covering 3 days a week, with some weekend days. It comes with a competitive training budget and travel expenses. The role will start in early April 2020.
