Wildlife and bird monitor group

We are looking for ecologically minded people to help us monitor and record birds around Langley Vale Wood.   This will help us determine if our work in woodland creation and the maintenance of open space habitats is benefiting wildlife in the area.

The voluntary wildlife recorder will visit Langley Vale Wood regularly and record a whole host of seasonal events. These may include the first flowers opening on bluebells, the first blue tits collecting materials to build their nests, or the first autumn colours to appear on the trees.

It could also involve counting the numbers of a specific species present at Langley Vale Wood and monitoring how these numbers change over the development of the project. This will help us to document what effects the project is having on the local wildlife and give you the chance to get outdoors and use your skills to help us understand the impact we have locally.

Langley Vale Wood is the Woodland Trust’s flagship Centenary Wood for our First World War Project.  Langley Vale will stand as the largest of four national woods across the UK, and over the next four years we’ll be planting 200,000 trees to create thousands and thousands of thank you’s to all those who served and sacrificed in the First World War.  The 640 acre site includes 144 acres
of irreplaceable ancient woodland between Epsom Downs and Mole Valley. Our vision is for a wood which protects the past while looking to the future.

Langley Vale Wood is an important conservation project that will ensure the future of hundreds of thousands of trees and the plants and wildlife they support.
