Wildlife Trainee (Conservation); Warburg Nature Reserve, Oxfordshire

The Wildlife Trainee role involves practical conservation on the reserves; restoring and improving habitats for wildlife. Trainees will help to look after our livestock, repair and install site infrastructure, use power tools and machinery, carry out species surveys and carry out activities with volunteers. We would also like the Trainee to be able to chat to visitors and deliver guided walks after some training. There is also an opportunity to assist other Oxfordshire teams with environmental education and events.

Alongside the day-to-day learning experiences, all trainees will receive a substantial amount of external and internal training, covering habitat management, species ID, surveying, community engagement and interview training among others. This will include external accreditation such as the St John Ambulance First Aid at Work certificate and up to £1,000 of other training such as NPTC certification in felling small trees. Limited travel expenses are also available.

The position would suit those wishing to develop the skills required to follow a career in the conservation sector. Applicants should have a keen interest in UK wildlife conservation, learning and imparting conservation knowledge, a good level of physical fitness, a valid UK driving licence and be willing to supervise and lead volunteers. Relevant volunteering experience is also desirable. Please see the Role Description for a full list of essential and desirable criteria.

Hours: A commitment of 3 days per week for 6-12 months is essential. Please be aware that this is an unpaid position.
