Wildlife Trainee: Education & Community

We are recruiting an Education and Community Trainee to gain experience of managing, planning and delivering a programme of activities at our flagship nature reserve, education and visitor centre, College Lake. If you have a passion for nature and wildlife, and enjoy engaging with people, especially children and families, this could be the ideal opportunity for you to further your experience and skills.

The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) is a membership-based voluntary organisation, managing 90 nature reserves, influencing land management and educating and encouraging all sectors of the community to care for local wildlife.

As a Wildlife Trainee (Education and Community) you will join our Buckinghamshire Education and Community team. Based at College Lake, our flagship nature reserve,  education and visitor centre, you will experience first hand our varied and exciting range of education and community work. This will include assisting with and leading school group activities, both at the centre and off-site, planning and delivering events for families, supporting our Nature Tots pre-school group and our wider community projects.

This unpaid post offers a great opportunity for you to develop your skills in the environmental education field, build experience in facilitating children’s learning in an outdoor setting, and inspire the next generation on our beautiful nature reserve and in the local community. Previous Trainees have found this role a great way to gain experience which has been instrumental in helping them begin their career.

Applicants should have a keen interest in environmental education and conservation, working with children and enjoy interacting with people of all ages. Relevant volunteering experience is desirable.

A commitment of 3 days per week for 12 months is essential. Traineeship days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (preferred but negotiable) 8.30am – 4.30pm (with flexibility).
