Wildlife Trainees (Conservation) South Buckinghamshire x2

If you want to work in the environmental sector but lack the experience to land your first job, a Trainee position with BBOWT may be just what you need. We are looking to recruit three volunteer Wildlife Trainees to join our teams, delivering a programme of works across Buckinghamshire reserves. During these placements you will increase your experience, practical skills and knowledge, with the aim of helping you to progress towards a paid role in conservation.

As a Trainee you will gain employer-valued practical experience of conservation techniques, ranging from scrub clearance and vegetation management to maintenance of site infrastructure and helping to manage our livestock. You will take part in a varied training programme, tailored to your role (including outdoor first aid certification and, for those electing to commit to 12 months, NPTC Chainsaw). You will have a dedicated mentor who will monitor your progress and help with personal development throughout your placement. Limited travel expenses are also available.

Based out of College Lake, near Tring, you will join a skilled and knowledgeable team delivering conservation across our South Buckinghamshire reserves, which include beautiful woodland at Dancersend, wetland at Weston Turville Reservoir and chalk grassland at Yoesden. You will learn about the practical management of these habitats and how this benefits the rich diversity of species they host; including rare orchids, wildflowers, butterflies and birds. In addition to improving your skills in practical conservation and species identification, you will also gain experience leading volunteer groups, and have the opportunity to learn about conservation grazing techniques and the management of Trust livestock.

Applicants should have a keen interest in UK wildlife conservation, a good level of physical fitness, and be willing to supervise and lead volunteers. Relevant volunteering experience is desirable; please see the Role Description for a full list of essential and desirable criteria.
