The departments of Biosciences and Geography are home to the majority of our research and teaching related to conservation; both departments are recognised for the quality of their outputs. Biosciences is ranked 3rd in the UK in The Guardian University Guide 2016 and 9th for Biological Studies in The Complete University Guide 2016. Our Geography department is in the Top 20 globally^ and is 6th for Geography and Environmental Science in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016. In both disciplines, 97% of our students progress into employment or further study within six months of graduation.
Our academics pride themselves on undertaking cutting-edge teaching and research designed to address the factors that influence biodiversity and complexity in the natural world. Our Centre for Ecology and Conservation, Environment and Sustainability Institute, and Centre for Geography, Environment and Society are world leaders in integrative, interdisciplinary research. This was recognized in the most recent Research Excellence Framework assessment, which rated both Biosciences and Geography top 10 in the UK for world-leading and internationally excellent research.
